Team KMC - Rob Colston - Rowing, Triathlon

My name is Rob Colston, 24 and grew up in the lake district.

I've been rowing competitivrly for the last 4 years, having competed in national and international competitions. Currently at Cambridge 99 rowing club. In addition to this I love walking in the fells and taking my bike out for a spin wherever and whenever I can. I also enjoy open water swimming in Ullswater whenever I'm home, taking these hobbies forward I'm looking to take on more challenges in the Lake District building on my experience of the Bassenthwaite Triathlon in 2017 and further abroad.

I'm currently a PhD student at Cranfield University where I am researching new ways of recovering nutrients from wastewaters for use in fertilisers and other industrial applications.

A quote I've recently appreciated is from Bob Knight: 'The will to win is nothing... everybody has that. The will to prepare to win is what matters.'

The importance if this rings true both physically and mentally to succeed in a competitive atmosphere and to improve resilience.

Something I'm starting to become more in tune with is nutrition and how key it is for developing physical gains and mental wellness. Kendal Mint Company satisfies my nutritional needs before competing (the citrus mint gel is truly excellent, no stickiness or upset stomach and no need to drink gallons of water afterwards) and afterwards (the chocolate mint recovery powder is yummy!). But also my goal to find local suppliers to reduce transport emissions and support smaller businesses which is far more sustainable.

Thanks for reading! Really enjoying the products and representing the brand!
