The 70-mile Ultra Marathon, Rat Race the Wall is a real test for any runner and a fantastic test for our KMC energy products.

The race took place over the weekend of the 15 -16th June, and follows the route of Hadrian's Wall from Carlisle to Newcastle upon Tyne. Taking KMC energy gels for a run-out was ex-army man Neil Glencross.

'I'm a keen runner and really like to push myself and my body, so the Rat Race seemed to be just the ticket.'

During Neil's army career, he had used Kendal Mint Cake as part of his ration packs and so was keen to give our KMC 're-energised' version a go. Neil went on to say:

'I have three daughters who are all great swimmers, in fact, the two eldest compete. They are members of Carlisle Aquatics, and I'm hoping to raise money for a new timing board'.

Neil has competed in at least 10 Great North Runs and is used to relying on energy gels to give that extra boost when it is needed.

"I get the need for energy gels and they do work, but often the benefits are outweighed by the downsides. Most are so thick they are hard to get down, and they all tend to give me an upset stomach. I followed the instructions to the letter when taking the KMC Gels, making sure that the intervals between them were right. As a result, I felt full of energy all day long.

But the most important thing for me, apart from tasting great, was the fact that they were very easy to swallow, and I never got even the slightest hint of an upset stomach. They are without a shadow of a doubt the best energy product I have used so far."

Despite a knee injury picked up during the Rat Race, Neil posted a very respectable time of 18 hours, 29 minutes and 59 seconds.

'I'am going to try and get under 17 hours next time, and I'm going to go for the 200-mile bike ride from Whitehaven to Scarborough, and will definitely be taking my KMC Gels with me!'

We were proud to be able to support such a brilliant challenge all in aid of the local swimming club, something very close to our hearts. Best of luck with all of your future adventures Neil! – Jack
